Making space…

I came back from Knit Nation energised and full of ideas for new brands & products I’d love to stock but first we need to finish making space ready for a bit of a ‘re-birth’!

We’ve got up to 30% off some truly lovely yarns (so hard to say goodbye!) so if your favourite is up for grabs now is the time to treat yourself…

Now We Are One!

Well, it’s been a year since Meadow Yarn threw open its virtual doors and what a year it’s been!

Our range has increased tremendously, we’ve sent woolly parcels all over the UK and the World and we’re busy gearing up for the ‘knitting season’ with a year of hindsight and experience under our belts…

To help us celebrate our 1ST year of trading you can use the code NOWWEAREONE through the whole of September to get 10% off your orders (exc. P&P). Please feel free to share the love – and you can use the code as many times you like between now and the 30th…

In other news, we’re off to celebrate the birthday of our Stitch & Sip host this evening! As I may have alluded to on several occasions previously, my local ‘knit night’ is held at Mains Bistro in Yoxford and as Nancy celebrated a significant birthday this past week we thought we would down the needles this evening for long enough to enjoy a meal together. As Mains has just been included in the Good Food Guide 2011 it’s sure to be a real treat! Congratulations guys – you deserve it!

Of course my birthday gift for Nancy was a knitted affair:

Felted Bowls for Nancy

I hadn’t knitted one of these for a while but they are such an enjoyable project I think I might have a few on the Christmas Knitting list for this year! All Ravelled here

FO: ‘Enid’

Enid is finally off the needles, ends woven in and blocked! She was a WIP for a while… Being a 4-ply knit from the bottom-up it did take a while to get through the swathe of chocolate brown stockinette in-the-round and a couple of other projects managed to sneak in along the way! But, she is here and I think she is a success!

I don’t think this one is likely to get worn ‘properly’ for a while yet though- that 100% Alpaca is pretty warm and being mid-August – even in the UK – it’s not really Alpaca weather! Even this quick photo shoot was a tad uncomfortable!

But the fit is good and I *love* the colours! There was lots of deliberation and a definite pause before I started on the yoke while I spent some time with various combinations! It’s so *hard* to make decisions when you can have (almost) anything you want!

To be honest, the stranded colour work could have looser floats – it seems no matter how long/loose I think I am leaving them they are always just slightly too tight and the result is a yoke that has a very slight puckered look to it in places. I’m prepared to live with that though – and as the yarn is Alpaca it has a halo that almost lends itself to that slightly textured effect…

I decided to leave the neck and bottom to roll naturally rather than hem as per the pattern. I like the effect at the neck better than the turned and stitched option which I tried first. I might hem the bottom edge at some point once I’ve got a feel for how it sits ‘in action’.

You can see all the yarn details here (Rav link) but it’s all Artesano Alpaca 4 ply which was wonderful to work with and comes in the most wonderful shades…

ummm… a little christmas knitting! (finally)

Well, we may be almost halfway through February but I forgot to photograph the family of Christmas hats that were sent up to the chilly north of England for my sister and her family! Well, that’s what happens when the Christmas knitting doesn’t actually finish until Christmas Eve!

After a little cajoling and creeping I persuaded them that I *really* did need photos of their hats for my blog (they found this concept quite hilarious) so here is my little trio of knitted head warming devices…

Enjoying a little Christmas knitting!

Using some gorgeous Sublime aran weight, some lovely soft Sublime DK and the super-quick knit on the right from my favourite Artesano Aran. All Ravelled here

A cosy knit to get the ball rolling…

Well, the leaves are turning, the morning air has a distinct chill and the nights are drawing in…

That can only mean one thing around here – new hats! Chris was keen to acquire a niceĀ  cosy Peruvian style ‘ear flap’ hat ready for chilly days on the allotment I had just the yarn in mind… I had a hunt around for a suitable pattern and came up with a wonderful free pattern from Interweave Knits ‘Cover your Ears‘ collection.

Peruvian Ear Flap Hat

The yarn is Artesano Aran in Midnight, Maple & Twilight and it used less than a skein of the main colour (Midnight) and much much less than a skein of the other two shades. The boys are now demanding smaller scale versions for themselves so the colourways will be switched accordingly to use the remainder up!
