change of scene…

We’ve been busy bees these past two weeks, moving our ‘operation’ from the Barn back home to our cosy studio. We’ve said goodbye to this…

and hello to something much smaller but no less inspiring.

We made the decision a while back that we needed to change Meadow Yarn a little. It was growing steadily into something that was keeping us (but mainly me) away from home and family for longer and longer and it felt right to get some much needed flexibility back into the day-to-day…

So, our meadow view has gone, replaced by garden as we set up in our home studio once again (where our previous business started out from 8 years ago).

The view may be slightly less impressive (and include the washing line and the trampoline!) but our garden ‘studio’ is just a few metres from our allotment and a five minute walk from the other ‘meadow’ in our lives…

Referred to as ‘The Field’ it’s our 9 acres of amazing Suffolk countryside and we’re hoping that the flexibility working form ‘home’ gives us will allow us to dedicate a lot more time to turning it into something productive… something that feeds us a little, keeps us close to the land we live in and is an amazing space for the boys to be a part of as they grow.

As for Meadow Yarn, the move means that we’ll be concentrating more on ‘speciality’ yarns – whether that be fine laceweights, hand dyed sock yarn or Lopi & Shetland yarn from further afield. Partly to allow us to fit into a space that is physically much smaller but also to encourage us to work with small producers and embrace all the wonderful artisan crafts people who’s work we admire. I have a huge wish list and it’s all very exciting!

There will still be yarn from some of the big names – ‘capsule’ collections if you like – but our selection will be carefully chosen  to compliment the smaller brands and fill basic requirements – for a workhorse cotton, or a subtle tweed for example – rather than dominate the range.

As with everything we do, it won’t be an overnight change (although the big clearance sale has made quite a difference!) but a gradual evolution into something that feels and looks almost the same… but not quite…

I’m also hoping they’ll be time for a bit more of this while the Autumn sun shines…

  1. Hooray for Meadow Yarn – we look forward to all the more artisan yarn & to a better pace of life. I hope the sun carries on shining for your commute to the shed!
