First of a few…

Although this space has been a bit quieter than usual these past weeks the fingers have still been busy and the pile of finished knits is mounting. So I thought I’d better get it together and start sharing them here lest you all think I’ve abandoned the needles altogether (horror!)

My favourite (only πŸ˜‰ ) niece has an early summer birthday which lends itself perfectly to the bestowing of knitted gifts… well, let’s be honest there aren’t any birthdays that don’t lend themselves perfectly to the bestowing…. ahem) so I got busy on Ravelry looking for the perfect little cardigan for a sweet two-year-old and found Granny’s Favourite. This delightful number designed by Georgie Hallam had all the required features… Simple top-down, seamless construction (my favourite for toddler sweaters), an interesting yoke followed by simple stocking stitch for knitting-ease and using speedy DK yarn – because, of course, I’d decided to cast on just a matter of days before the big day!

I chose some gorgeous Mirasol Tuhu yarn in a delicate silvery grey-blue…

Mirasol Tuhu – Silver Fox

It’s a very very soft yarn, being a blend of baby Llama, Merino & Angora giving it a slight halo that has maximum cuddle factor without being toooo fluffy for a toddler’s sensibilities!

It was very nice to knit with and didn’t shed too much as I whizzed through the rows…

The pattern is sized from newborn all the way through to 12 years and has lots of options for different sleeve lengths and body lengths so is a very flexible pattern that encourages adaptation to suit yardage available etc. Fabulous! The pattern incorporates a simple lace pattern, involves picking up stitches and knitting in the round but given the level of detailed instruction included in the pattern notes I think this makes a fabulous pattern for beginner knitters who want to take the plunge into something a little more complex!

Needing just 3 buttons, I took inspiration from the pattern model and went for a fun red option (which also fits in with my love of duck egg combined with tomato red!)

She loved it (well… actually she wasn’t particularly bothered by a new cardigan in amongst the sea of toys and on one of the hottest days of the year πŸ˜‰ ) but I know her mum loved it!
